Nicola Scott's 5 Favourites from Bovey Tracey
Nicola Scott is the Assistant Curator (Decorative Arts) at National Museums, Liverpool.
I love these bold designs, inspired by nature and kind to nature too. These cushions and fabrics will bring the garden into the home for plant-lovers everywhere.
The natural materials of these handwoven baskets appeal to me. I like the idea that they have been harvested close to home. The baskets are both local and part of a world-wide tradition. The subtle contrasts of the colours and weaves makes them very tactile objects.
The craft of the blacksmith dates back centuries. Simon uses these traditional skills to forge metal inspired by art nouveau. But with a contemporary twist.
With his sculpture of a rhino, Jack captures both the essence of this wild creature and its pathos. He also comments on its precarious situation in the world. It is simple piece and a strong statement.
Rosie Brewer’s choice of contrasting woods elevates these simple spoons above the everyday.
A set of these would be an artwork in your kitchen.
