Lucy Shrimpton 5 Favourites from Cheltenham
Lucy Shrimpton is a lifestyle and travel writer with a vast portfolio of content including articles featured in Cornwall Life, Waitrose Weekend, Living France and much more. Take a look here.
A good few years back now, a Cornish gallery was my portal to Janine Partington’s work, and now everyone in my extended family has one or two of her small but striking enamel tiles. I love their less obvious look at nature, such as skeletal trees against mysteriously menacing skies, all in that lovely sheen.
Call me precious but after the last winter, quite frankly the thought of entering another one without optimum sofa or neck embellishments fills me with dread. So, I’ll be making a beeline for Rhian Wyman’s scarves and throws, which I love. Hooray for handwoven hygge.
We’ve all been curating our homes of late and now gallery walls really are A Thing. The top tip I was given was to break away from just using standard frames by introducing different textures and shapes on to the wall, and in Charlotte Macey’s circular embroidered wall hangings I spy a gorgeous contemporary take on an age-old tradition. The shell ones satisfy my marine leanings.
After too many decades of fast fashion, I love the notion that we’re going full circle and leaning more towards investing in ONE classic item that (literally) lasts a lifetime. Bonner Leather looks like it ticks this box and I’m looking forward to seeing their backpacks and courier bags in the flesh in Cheltenham. Virtual stroking in the meantime.
Who needs mainstream when you can have inventive and curious? Art is storytelling and for this I love the textile sculpture work of Anya Keeley, whose animals are inspired by ‘folklore, fairy tales and childhood adventures’. ‘Gerrard’, I truly don’t know what I love about you the most: your expressive eyes or your scrawny porcine legs. You’re hot.
Covid Safety
