I make ceramics which are both decorative and functional: beautiful to look at and a pleasure to use. My vases, jugs and bowls are thrown on the wheel from white earthenware clay, and are partly inspired by the still-life paintings of Giorgio Morandi: I enjoy placing my work in harmonious groups, where the colour and form of each vessel is in balance with its companions. I studied Ceramics at Camberwell College of Arts, graduating in 1996, and during my degree course I formulated a smooth, semi-matt glaze, to which I add oxides and stains to obtain a wide range of colours, sometimes muted and subtle and sometimes bright and vivid. Colour inspiration comes from nature: flowers, trees, birds' eggs, the sky and seashore.. as Morandi himself said, what interests me most is expressing what is in nature, in the visible world..
