Looking Forward to Welcoming Our Global Audience
Written: 04 November 2021
Hello!
Hoping this finds you in good shape, it seems to be a busier time than ever for everyone at the moment. I hope you get the opportunity to take a breath and join us at Digital Craft Festival next weekend.
We've gathered together 100 exceptional makers and what I particularly love about our online events is the wide geographical spread of the exhibitors and audience. We have potters from the most Northerly tip of Scotland, blacksmiths from Sante Fe, knitwear from Sweden and jewellers from France. Not forgetting home grown makers from just down the road from Bovey Tracey in Devon, where we are based.
The audience is no exception. I'm looking forward to welcoming visitors new and old from across the globe. I hope you enjoy the beautiful range of work, I'm really pleased with it!
I'll be kicking off proceedings, chatting live on Instagram at 10am on Saturday 13th November. Hope to see you then. You can enjoy the full programme by going to Digital Craft Festival
Maker Takeover
We asked a range of makers from Digital Craft Festival to choose their 5 Favourites. This week is the turn of jeweller, Caroline Brogden.
Jeremy James Highly detailed sculptures are medicine to the soul. The more you look at them, the more they seem to come alive with their own personalities. The Curling Otter has to be my absolutely favourite. He has captured such a rare playful moment in time.
Hem Handwoven There is so much to love about her work. You are instantly drawn in by the beautiful colours and details ; whilst her love of the sea is so deeply woven into her pieces, that they begin to evoke your own how coastal memories.
Nix: Hawkins – Ceramics – I am utterly intrigued by her wonderfully ancient method of wood firing and the simple beauty she creates with her hands and minimal tools. Functional pieces to be treasured, are rare to come by, but these definitely tick that box.
PJW Woodworks – He has brought a contemporary edge to an ancient and often overlooked material. The mix of both modern and traditional techniques allows him to create exquisite pieces that will last for generations to come. The slick smooth lines and attention to detail are amazing and a piece of his furniture would be the star of any room.
Anya Keeley – What’s not to love about such whimsical creatures. Her use of vintage, reclaimed and waste materials is extra-ordinary. Plus the fact that Bruce the Mouse appears to be wearing a superb pair of vintage board shorts!!
