Patricia van den Akker's 5 Favourites from Bovey Tracey
Patricia van den Akker is the Director of The Design Trust.
I have been following Takahashi McGil on Instagram for a while and each time get mesmerised by the simplicity of the work and images. Beautifully executed. Honest materials. That’s what excellence in crafts looks like.
Ceramic designer Sue Pryke has been one of my favourites for a long time, and I own a few (!) of her teapots. It’s very difficult to design contemporary tableware that stands out, is beautiful and functional, and affordable. Her glaze colours and shapes are so tactile and understated. When you use her tea pots or mugs you can really connect with the making process, which is what good design & craft is all about for me.
Cyriaque Ambriose tactile hand-carved functional woodwork is just stunning. Very simple, timeless and down to earth but with a clear signature of the maker.
I have been following the progress of Swedish-Cornish-jeweller Carin Lindberg for a while and it’s great to see how she is developing her own style. Especially love her contemporary rings that combine beach pebbles with gems. And a great example of a maker who promotes herself in creative ways.
Love the vibrant colours in Katy Luxton’s nylon bangles. Very architectural but light at the same time. Simple statement pieces.
